During last month’s assignment, Hemisphere’s design director Jaimey Easler (a great guy to work with), asked me to work on another feature titled “Dream Drives”. It too was a great assignment.
I was commissioned to illustrate a feature article titled “Out of the Shadows”, written about the upcoming 400 year anniversary of the Jamestown settlement in Virginia. It was a challenging assignment, but one that I enjoyed very much. It was a great opportunity to use my drawing to tell a story to a large audience.
Reportage is the single most important part of my success as a visual artist. Whether it be illustration, graphic design or photography, learning to tell a story while I am part of it has taught me to appreciate and understand what the essential elements of visual communication are…knowledge, experience, and the ability to draw.
