hi greg,
great work. wow, i could see your development from the early days in dave’s drawing class to now.
i don’t know if you remember me, i was in dave’s class a long time ago. to make story short, i took a very long hiatus from trying to pursue the illustration, i guess i didn’t have the fortitude to stick with it, though i kept doing reportage drawing on times when i’m able to travel.
i guess i realized i couldn’t really give up drawing completely so i’m starting again from ground zero, trying to see my chances out there. do you have any advice on how to go about it?
just out of curiosity, hope you don’t mind, how long did it actually take for you to get your first assignment? how did you get it? did you actually pitch your work or the magazine called you? how’s the industry right now, is there any place for newcomers at all?
Hi Annabelle. Of course I remember you, thanks for writing. Glad to hear you’re going to try again to illustrate. It really is a rewarding field.
As far as what you can do to get going, I would say keep an open mind to it. Realize that the world of illustration has changed…FOR THE BETTER. New technologies have opened up many new areas of the business, and I suggest you explore your options to see where you and your work fit. Hope that helps, and best of luck.
